There are many romance anime in this spring 2026 season. Where “Even a Replica Can Fall in Love” differs is we follow a replica by the name Nao. Essentially, Nao is a replica of a girl named Sunao. As the show presents to us, Nao feels similar to what you consider a twin but, on the surface, lacks what each twin would use to differentiate themselves from the other. As for Nao she lives for Sunao and completes her requests.
This anime is more a romance drama, as it uses the idea of replicas to examine characters like Nao in a psychological sense in comparison to humans. But just Nao herself is also Sunao. As the story we get from Nao’s point of view gives us insight about Sunao. If you are looking for something more lighthearted, this might not be the fit for you. But if you are looking for good, tightly written drama with romance, this makes for a great show to watch. Despite being a replica, Nao comes across as very human in an ironic sense. It makes her a character very endearing.
As far as an adaptation, it has its pros and cons. The pros are that the pacing from the light novel is excellent. As it captures the emotional beats very well. Also, the art direction and voice acting are very nice. As the show progresses, the animation comes alive a bit more. Perhaps it symbolizes how Nao starts to become more of her own self as the show progresses.
The con would be directing and sound direction. This anime is missing a strong OST to elevate many scenes. As it feels quiet, which isn’t a bad fit. Though there are some scenes where a much stronger sound direction would elevate. Furthermore, the overall directing feels very plain. It gets the job done but could be better. Also, I would add the psychological elements are toned down compared to the light novel. It feels more like a romance than the novel gives you. So if you are really here for the psychological aspects of the story, then reading the light novel first might be preferred. But if not, the anime is a great experience as an anime only.
One thing I like about the adaptation is that it covered Nao’s story, but it adapted the first 3 volumes and adapted the ending for volume 4. It gives a solid enough experience for anime-onlies. At the same time for them, if they want to find out what happens in volume 4, they can also do that. For light novel readers, it keeps the pacing at a good rate. 1 cour for 4 books would be too much.
If you are looking for a unique story and/or you are a fan of romance drama with good writing, this show is absolutely worth a watch.
