This episode is truly the Golden Kamuy experience. Historical first half, but switches the tone when focusing on the theme of this prison escape convict. As for Sekiya he clearly took his daughter’s death hard. Does God truly exist? Did God punish Sekiya by having the lightning kill his daughter? Or was it simply bad luck? Then we have Kadokura who has some strange bad and good luck.
Though Hijikata lays it out the most practical way. God may or may not exist. You could focus on that, but it would be better to spend time focusing on what you can control. Which is a good way to look at life because worrying about things you can’t control can lead to a life of misery.
This episode finished adapting the skipped arc of Hijikata’s crew by adapting chapters 173-175 plus the first few pages of 176. Which now allows the series to get back to moving forward with the plot.
