Violet Evergarden – Episode 7

This might have been the episode with the most emotional breakthrough yet. Though this episode starts with Violet working with an author named Oscar Webster. The first impression of Oscar is that he is an alcoholic. One of the best first signs for Violet is that she empathizes with the story. This is huge because Violet is discovering the emotions, and worrying about what comes next is significant. It shows that her feelings are developing.

It is interesting to learn that the children’s story that Oscar is writing is very personal to him. He used to have a daughter who was the last of his family after his wife passed away. Sadly, his daughter dealt with health issues and had the same fate as her mother. Now it makes sense why Oscar’s home was such a mess. Violet’s presence was that of her daughter in many ways.

Even adding to the previous point, now she empathizes with Oscar’s pain, which is a big step for her. In the story, the girl will reunite with her father. It is clear that the story is the best way to give her daughter a happy ending. Just giving that to Oscar must have meant the world to him.

Though Violet is learning about emotions now, she looks at her time in the military differently. Does she deserve to live while so many died? Finally Claudia tells him the truth that Gilbert is dead. Not a surprise she didn’t take it well at all.
