“The Fated Magical Princess: Who Made Me a Princess” is based on the Korean web novel and webcomic, which is adapted into Chinese animation, otherwise known as Donghua. Donguha has been on the rise lately with the success of adaptations of Lord of the Mysteries & To Be Hero X.
First thing first, I have to compliment the visual direction of the Donguha; it is very well done. The animation is beautifully animated, and the sound direction is also good. Even among anime in this Fall 2025 season, it holds up very well. Only shows like MHA Final Season, SxF & Cinderella Gray hold up in comparison.
Manhwa is a medium where regressor stories are much more common. It’s difficult for me to compare since I don’t read Manhwa. Overall, the story has good execution to it. Essentially, in the first timeline, Athanasia was outcasted by her father, Claude, in favor of her half-sister. Jennette. Athanasia, with memories of the previous timeline, is now trying to avoid her bad ending.
Overall, this story executes its regressor themes well. Athanasia is able to use her memories to carve out a better life. Of course there are some consequences for other characters like Jennette. Where this story really shines is with Claude because this cold man has some notable trauma inside of him.
The show has good execution throughout, although the ending to the season is a bit of an odd one. It leaves a cliffhanger that doesn’t give a good feeling to the end of the story because there are multiple hanging threads. The main antagonist is still out there. We have Lucas, and it feels like there is more to his character. Then for Athanasia herself, it feels like this is more of an extra hurdle than a bad ending. Though if S2 doesn’t come, I will drop this score from 8 to 7.
So should you watch it? Well, if you like regressor stories, this is definitely worth a watch. You don’t consume many Korean series? Well, if you are a Shoujo or josei fan, I think this is worth a look. Are you looking for an independent female protagonist? Yes, it’s worth a look. Essentially, unless you are a massive battle Shounen fan, this show is at least worth a look.
I really enjoyed this show, and I hope an S2 comes so we can get some answers to where this show left off.
