This volume’s most notable trait is showing the relationship between devils and sorcerers. It seems the devils create the masks the sorcerers used that enhance their magic. It is clear that devils are a higher being and seem to live in hell.
This volume gives us the backstory on En. For one, his forcing Nikaidou to be his partner feels uncomfortable because she is forced to be his partner. Unlike the case of Shin & Noi, she can’t disobey En. This feels less like a partnership and more like a master-and-slave situation. While his reasons for wanting time magic to see if the cross-eyed man is alive make sense. There is a clear rivalry between the two families/organizations. It doesn’t really offset his treatment of Nikadou so far.
No surprise that Caiman is giving up everything to save Niakidou because he went on his own so she isn’t in harm’s way. We do have official confirmation then, man, inside of Caiman is Risu. But Risu doesn’t have control of his magic yet. Does it mean that Risu is a hybrid like Shin, but he has the same magic as Ebisu?
