Ascendance of a Bookworm: I’ll Do Anything to Become a Librarian! Part 1 – Volume 6

The devouring is quite the notable issue for Myne. If it wasn’t for the Guildmaster’s help, she would have been a goner. Although Benno barely got by, since Myne has made so much money, they would have pushed her to work for them. Still, this is a scary situation because Myne will either have to accept her death or be a slave to the nobility. It is a fucked circumstance because neither situation is something Myne would want. To lose the family she has come to cherish now or just enjoy her last year of living.

Though the situation is still bad for Frieda because she is bound to be a noble’s concubine. Which is messed up considering that Frieda is the same age as Myne. Of course it is not like there is much the guildmaster could have done. It really emphasizes the point that Myne’s options are limited because if Frieda has to be a concubine to live, what choices does Myne really have?

A gut-wrenching scene where Myne tells her family about her situation. Of course they are in shock because as commoners they have no idea what the devouring is. For them to get hit with all of this information at once like this had to hurt. No surprise that Tuuli takes it the hardest, and you even say Effa’s emotions are breaking up. The one who gets hit the hardest is Gunther because he loves his kids to death. He tried to put the tough guy act in front of his family, but it is clear how much this crushes him.

On the brighter side of things, the situation with Lutz’s family is getting better. It seems Lutz is the type of kid that doesn’t really speak what’s on his mind. It is clear that his brothers take advantage of his kindness. Furthermore, it does seem his mother was genuinely unaware of that circumstance. At the very least it is good that Lutz made it clear that he is serious, and it looks like the family is finally taking that into consideration. One thing that is clear from Benno is that while Myne gets most of the attention, Lutz has good skills in being a merchant, as he has developed

No surprise Benno is very considerate regarding Myne’s situation. Of course he will take as much from Myne’s genius as he can get. It looks like he is earnest about getting the ball rolling to sell Myne’s recipe for paper. Curious how the final volume of Part 1 plays out.
