I think the contrast between the first and 2nd halves of the episode is that Romelia has been smart in choosing her battles. I think this shows she is very effective as a leading commander for her men. If you go into battles way above your weight class it doesn’t matter how good your tactics are. Still curious instead of a bear them running into the Demon Lord’s men. Curious if that was pure accident or if Serbeck’s work is at play. Though he seems incompetent.
So Ray and Al have potential in magic. It’s clear that Ray is the one that is going through a potential character arc. He wants to prove himself, but constantly him being reckless is an issue. In the 2nd instance Al got hurt to protect him. I think this is an important moment to show that reckless actions have consequences. I do hope with Romelia’s luck that Al’s wound isn’t fatal at least.
Furthermore, I think it’s clear that Romelia aims to retreat, but what is the plan now for her?
