Crowned in a Hundred Days – Review

At this point if you have been following Donguha’s works, you might be familiar with Haoling Li. With his works like To Be a Hero X & Link Click. With Crowned in a Hundred Days you get something a bit different. Here you get something more comedic and fast-paced. With the 12-minute episode runtime this works really well. Each episode feels snappy and has a clear direction to it.

The story follows Xiaoming Wang who is living the comfortable life when that is taken from him. King Lie kidnaps his fiance and kills his fiance’s father. Though he learns that the true King Lie’s body was bodysnatched. This leads the spirit of the true King Lie to be alongside Wang’s body. Together they sought out to take the throne from the Fake King Lie. Wang wants to get back his love. For Lie to get back the throne.

One very interesting thing about this work is how it utilizes the isekai element that we see in many anime. It really takes advantage of it really well. It’s a refreshing take on it. Having the protagonist not be the isekaied character is something we don’t get too often.

Production is really solid. Not too much to comment. When the scene demands it, the animation is great. Also if you liked some of the comedic scenes in Link Click which are not too often this happens with more variety here. Characters are very expressive. The only con I could say is the side cast can be too reliant on Wang & King Lie. But we are early in this show as it feels like it’s only 1/4 done.

This series might not be discussed as much as Haoling’s other series, but don’t sleep on it. It is a blast to watch.
