The next big event for Myne is her baptism. Myne has been much more composed throughout the series, where we forgot how obsessed she can be with books. She gets to meet the High Bishop, who assumes Myne is a noble because of how she is dressed, and it turns into a mess when she collapses and the High Bishop learns that she has the devouring.

Although being a shrine maiden isn’t really something Myne thought it would be. Granted, her love of books gave her tunnel vision. Her father illustrates that they are no better than slaves. Of course the argument was that nobody else would take those orphans, but there is no surprise why her father was furious.

But her connections with Benno come in clutch because he guides Myne on how to use the leverage she has. It is the stuff Benno has been teaching Myne all along in terms of becoming a merchant. Though it is more critical here because where Myne goes with her life extremely depends on how well things go with negotiations. The church needing those with Mana and Myne has more than enough.

A bit of a heartbreaking scene with Lutz where it seems Myne is tied to become a shrine maiden. Even though Benno and Myne got the magic contract done to ensure Lutz sells Myne’s books, he wanted to make and sell books with her. It is sad, but it is a reality of the situation they need to proceed forward.

Though the High Bishop is one disgraceful noble. The moment he realizes that Myne is a commoner, he acts beyond rude. At least Myne’s parents were willing to stand up for her. Still, of course, the High Bishop sending men triggered Myne’s emotions, and it has been shown that Myne’s family has been so important to her. But the thing is, her mana finally leaks out since before she was containing it. It is actually frightening how strong with her mana Myne is. It is called the Crushing, and it is something to at least take note of going forward.

Thankfully the Head Priest gets Myne under control. Myne gets the 3 things she needs. She can get help for her devouring, continue her business, and still live with her family.
