This was a great episode to focus on Claude. As a reminder, most of this season focused on Athy winning over her father. Claude’s mindset was more of a mystery. What is the extent of his relationship with Diana? We always assumed he must have loved her, but this episode cleared the air. As for whatever reason Athy’s birth would suck the life out of Diana. Of course Claude wouldn’t want to lose the woman he loved, but Diana having Athy’s kindness could never kill her future daughter.
Of course Claude couldn’t force Diana’s hand, but you can understand why he sank into despair. Athy was the link to Diana’s death. However, as Athy pushed forward, her kindness, which she gets from Diana, clearly left a big impression on him. Still he closed his heart, so will Athy be able to finally break it open?
It is curious to suggest that Lucas is the Great Wizard that protects the Wellspring. Still, the man who is scheming is using Lucas’s knowledge in his schemes. Curious what Lucas does next.
