Helck – Volume 4

As Vermilio fights back against the knight of darkness, we see Helck snap. We have seen Helck be down before, but seeing him snap like he did was notable. The strangest fact is that it was Piwi of all of them that brought Helck to his senses. Still the dark knight was named Augis, and he wanted to protect his friends from the darkness. Though he couldn’t protect himself. The fear of Helck following the same path as Augis if he falls into the darkness. Augis is broken, but it is good to see that even under the darkness, he did good. Still the worry for Helck if he becomes broken if he does the same?

On the demons side, they are back in Thor’s Castle fighting off the Winged Humans. The one fear of these awakened humans getting stronger is a reality. What is the solution at this point? Also, to add, for them, winning isn’t their goal? Wouldn’t it be not to continue fighting until they become strong enough? Still Helck would absolutely provide a huge boost to their side, but can these humans eventually get as powerful as Helck?

We finally start diving into Helck’s backstory. Even after rejecting his favor, Helck still insists Vermilio hear his story out. Helck upbringing really shows how awful the world was from the humans point of view. You had nobles, which, from what we can see in his childhood, is awful. Those two could never survive the outside world with how dangerous monsters were. Though for Helck it is clear that Cless was his pride and joy. It is funny how even at a small age Helck had his regenerating powers as a hero.

Still it is thanks to Shalamy and her father that those two finally had a life to have. For Cless, though, he strived to be a hero that could protect the weak. It is clear his potential was sky-high. Monsters from the outside getting worse even got Helck drafted to the Monster Slaying Squad. We see Edil from earlier in this series, but we also join up with a mercenary band that was protecting Edil’s home.

Still Helck’s strength, as we know by now, is insane. Alicia, the head of the mercenary group, is notably strong with her sacred sword. Even then Helck’s pure strength outdoes what she can do. Of course, her point is how much good Helck can do. It is interesting through his conversation with Alicia that demons are closer to a myth. Considering the setting of the story in the present, that is very notable. To add more, we have Azudra mentioning humans and demons were once on good relations. So what is the true story behind humans and demons and their past.

As we know already, Helck’s brother Cless would eventually defeat the Demon Lord Thor. As the logic from the humans is, if we beat the Demon Lord, then these swarms of monsters will be gone. Sadly that did not happen, and even with Cless badly injured, we see the monsters coming back. Even worse, the people who thought they had peace now demanded Cless go back and fight. Nobles were bad at the beginning of the flashback, and even again they act entitled when they didn’t take part in the fighting.

Vermilio monologues it was never the demons who caused the monster to run amok. This story is told from the perspective of the demons rather than the humans as a reminder. So when Helck states he will go in his brother’s place to finish off the Demon Lord, you can tell that there must be someone else behind this.
