Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End – Episode 16

The first half of the episode was a nice focus where we got to see some parallels between Frieren & Old Man Voll. Interesting to see we get to see our 2nd dwarf after Eisen. Him being approximately 400 years old despite the average lifespan of 300 years for a dwarf is interesting. I get the sense that Eisen must be around at least 200 years old if I had to guess.

Though the parallels between Frieren & Voll are interesting. Both of them are carrying out the goals of honoring those they cared about. Frieren journeyed to learn more about humans in the memory of Himmel and for Voll, protected the village that his wife loved. Though despite Frieren joking Voll is pretending to be senile, it’s clear he has some form of dementia, which makes sense since he is 25% older than the average lifespan of a dwarf. A bit sad knowing that even if he is alive the next time Frieren sees him, he might forget even more than just Frieren having already defeated the Demon King. Still, it is heartwarming that he was able to dream of his late wife.

It is easy to forget that Sein has his own reasons for going on this journey. This episode was a nice focus on getting information on where Gorilla is headed. Through Gorilla, we see the type of influence Himmel had on the next generation. Still, it must hurt Sein to hear that Gorilla was talking about him, and he just accepted for so long that Gorilla was gone. It’s also cool to see Kraft himself being an influence on both Sein & Gorilla. While it is good that Sein got information on where Gorilla went, it is in the opposite direction of Äuberst. So what does Sein plan to do here?

Chapters 33 and 34 were covered in this episode. Nothing too much to note. Some panels were extended and definitely look nicer in the anime medium.
