Violet Evergarden – Episode 12

This episode brought an interesting perspective. We know the war that happened before the series started. For Violet, Claudia, the military, and others, the war is basically done, and peace talks are about to wrap it up. So for them, the war is essentially over, if not technically over. For the rebels, it is do or die at this point.

Still, the main highlight of this episode is the interactions between Violet and Dietfried as we have seen as Violet has emotionally grown. Although it is clear she still hasn’t grown to be independent, which is why Dietfried looks at her as if she hasn’t changed. Though the old her would have returned to Claudia rather than fearing if her new colleagues she cares about could be in danger.

Violet has reached a point where she wants nobody to die but isn’t willing to even kill her enemies. Violet’s goal is to protect those she cares about, but not killing the enemy could mean endangering the lives of everyone on that train. While Violet is finally agreeing with her emotions, the one clear flaw she has is that she views that on everyone. As she mentions, Gilbert tells her to live, not kill, but what if killing is the only way you can survive the situation to live?

It’s not a huge surprise that Dietfried blames Violet for his brother’s death. He protected her to live when she was just a tool for fighting. Though she does protect him even as he says those things to her.
