Tatsuki Fujimoto 17-26 – Sisters

Now this is the final episode of the short stories by Fujimoto. This one probably shows off his current absurd writing style the best. After all, Mitsuko finds a painting of herself nude in the hallway of her school, and it was drawn by her little sister, Kyouko. What seems like an appalling introduction leads into the nature of their relationship. Kyouko adored and always chased behind her younger sister. Essentially they were very close until Mitsuko entered high school, where she distanced herself. Though interesting enough, Mitsuko figured that Kyouko would give up following her if she couldn’t attain the same high school. Though Kyouko did manage to improve her to reach that point.

The biggest focus is how Kyouko was always chasing after Mitsuko. How their relationship was viewed was based on how Kyouko was always chasing and therefore looking after Mitsuko. Which is why she could paint her sister well from her mind. Of course the revenge from Mitsuko’s POV was to paint Kyouko naked. However, she couldn’t do it like Kyouko painted her. She stopped looking at her sister after she entered high school. So she painted herself; more than likely she figured at least a painting of herself should be more accurate. Though Kyouko’s painting of Mitsuko also illustrates how much she admires her sister. As Mitsuko’s proportions in Kyouko’s painting are more appealing than what they actually are, but again, that simply means how she looks at her.

The way that we see the two of them as kids running, we see Kyouko catch up to Mitsuko and go past her. That is more a representation of their art skills, where when Mitsuko stopped paying attention to Kyouko she bypassed her despite being a 1st year currently. Though the ending really showcased that Kyouko will always be chasing Mitsuko for the rest of her life and Mitsuko can’t ever stop that. In reality, Mitsuko doesn’t mind as much as she might deny it.
