Helck – Volume 12

While it looked like the only way to stop Mikaros was for Helck to die because Mikaros wants Helck to obey the Will of the World. Thankfully Azudra came to provide Vermilio with some great support. Despite being seen as a jokester, he deeply cares for her. The part that is interesting is what Piwi provides. We saw with Augis Piwi was the one with his song to regain his sanity. As this was an adventure for Helck to overcome his despair and for Vermilio to understand humans more. Piwi from his own POV, had his journey.

We finally meet the witch of the island named Shunova again. Though the resemblance to Vermilio was purely because she is her aunt. She clearly knows much more than Vermilio does. Though the mystery still remains about her, what was it about Helck that she knew she could guide Vermilio? Perhaps she had an involvement with Uria like Azudra did.

In a series where it has been mentioned, what does it mean to be a hero? Cless shows that because he knows Helck would be upset if he lost his dear friends through all of this. Granted, the king suddenly coming back is a weird coincidence, but it works well. Of course, leave it to Helck. Just like we saw in the past, he could never leave behind his dear younger brother. It feels fitting that when Cless is trying to save everyone like he did in the past, it should be Helck that saves Cless. Vermilio trusting in Helck is great here at the moment when he says he will be fine. They are not the words of a man who has resigned himself to die but of someone who aims to come back to Vermilio and all of his friends.

Raphaed comes to Helck’s aid when he is trying to save Cless & Shalamy. Though by a lot of the measures, Raphael is a hard character to pin. Many times in the series he mentions how the despair will be too much for Helck. As he could very well live his own peaceful life. As we see with his actions with Shalamy, he actually really cared for the 3 of them. But before meeting them, he went through so much hell with humanity, and one of the key things that was shown was how rotten and greedy humans can become. It’s impossible for one man to carry the burden, and so Raphaed gave in to despair. Though if Helck can offer Raphaed a peaceful world when he reincarnates again, maybe this is a good end.

Overall, the ending of the manga is handled extremely well. All of Helck’s friends are back and getting back into the swing of things. Though even with everything handled well, the will of the world is out there because the world is ever-changing. It is about not giving in to it because too much change is not a good thing in life. It’s about having the will to make your own choices like Helck did.

Essentially, Helck wants to be the guy that Vermilio was to them. Granted, for people like Alicia, he was that already. Vermilio was that one friend who gave him hope and the aim to keep on living. Even Helck being this massive OP guy, can only handle so much. Mental health is a serious matter, and this story shows how huge friendship can be. When you are at your lowest, there could be someone out there who might seem like the least likely to pick you up. Vermilio gave Helck hope to live, and it is a beautiful story showing that off so well.
