This episode introduces Kano Ienaga who is a doctor and one of the escapees from Abashiri Prison. Though he now goes as a female. A bit of a slower-paced episode, but it worked well, as this is the vibe Golden Kamuy is known for. The only other key point is that Ushiyama tells Shiraishi that Hijikata wants his whereabouts at all times.
This episode adapted the latter parts of chapters 51-54. It adapted well enough to be enjoyed, but the Sugimoto Ushiyama ended up being less dynamic than the manga, which is the norm. Some skipped parts of Kiroranke’s grenade usage, but for what they had to cover, it makes sense.
