After Stark was sidelined during the Mage Exam Arc, we really get to see his display of a warrior on full display. He and Genau are really making a great team because Genau himself does well with handling aggro, unlike a lot of the mages we have seen so far.
Once again, Genau’s kindness shows up when the demon pretends to be a survivor to land a blow on Genau. It is a reminder that demons will do any sort of deception to get a hand over humans. Thankfully for Genau, he had Stark backing him up.
Interesting use of the fog, which messed up with Fern’s ability to hide her mana. Though this was the first time when we truly got to see her full arsenal on display. Also, it appears that Methode is part of a clan that lives to kill demons. Funny enough, despite her outward personality, as a mage, she and Frieren would get along quite well. Methode being able to dispel the fog was able to get Fern in the position to kill both demons.
Despite being able to take down Revolte, both Genau and Stark took mighty blows. Though Stark is in worse shape, I loved to see that Genau, even barely holding on, wraps the wound for Stark so he could survive. No doubt Stark is a freak of nature, but for Genau, he didn’t want to lose another partner to Revolte. Truly he is a much kinder man than he gives himself credit for.
I love Frieren’s answer for rejecting Methode’s invitation to travel with Frieren. They didn’t say goodbye to Sein but rather said farewell, to meet again. Not to mention the group can handle themselves fine. The group can do well on their own without the Goddess Magic. Not to mention Methode can do more magic than just the Goddesses magic, so it would be overkill to limit her to just a priest position.
This episode adapted the 2nd half of chapter 74 and both chapters 75 and 76.
- I was a bit worried that the pacing would be stalled, so I am very happy those fears were unfounded.
- Really extended the fight well. Tough to decide between this and Frieren and Fern vs. Frieren Clone for best fight. Storytelling-wise, I do prefer the clone fight.
- Great anime original addition showing Genau wrapping up Stark since he needed more medical attention. But also showing that he wanted to protect Stark’s kindness since it reminded him of his former partner.
