It’s good to see how Esperion is making use of Ashito’s strengths. As the defenders cover for Ashito when he goes up to play offense as his vision paired with Kuribayashi is a dangerous weapon. Of course as Fukuda points out it presents a gap if Ashito doesn’t get back. Ashito has plenty of time figuring things out.

It’s pretty intimidating how Barcelona turns up the pressure on Esperion. Adjustments have always been something that needs to happen in soccer. As it gets points out the type of fast adjustments is beyond what we’ve seen Esperion and other teams capable of. Usually there is one playmaker, but there are 3. The idea of 3 generals instead of 1 like with Esperion with Kuribayashi. The issue is communication, but clearly Barcelona is a case of what happens if communication is not the issue. You have 6 eyes at the playing field and the thought of it is quite intimdating.

Another interesting point that the Barcelona coach points out is the type of Barcelona soccer. We know that the culture of Spain really immerseives itself in the sport. As such these kids have been around soccer much more and more intensely than fellow Japanese natives. They are drilled in the possession soccer that Barcelona is known for. Playing the same style and with a considerable number of years no doubt gives them a big boost. Considering that in Japan there are more various paths and even adding when they get introduced to soccer in the first place is a bigger variable.

We know how good Kuribayashi is, but this is the game where he really puts it out there. It’s one thing for him to carry the team by himself, but to even be capable to do it against Barcelona who were getting into a rhythm, is outstanding. I like the focus with both Kiriki and Ashito. These are the two that Kuribayashi has kept his eye on. It’s through them they have the needed triangle to communicate and make plays.

Curious about the full process of Fukuda’s plan to beat possession soccer. Well ideally if they don’t have the ball that is the problem for them. Curious how Takasugi being the switcher will be the key.
