With the raid on Abashiri Prison about to commence, the conversation between Tanigaki & Inkarmat is good, as each has things that they are tied to. For Inkarmat she is tied down with her past with Wilk, and it is more for her to have closure as her feelings have moved to Tanigaki. Of course Tanigaki has hurdled his demons of the past, as we know, but vows to fulfill his duty to Huci to bring Asirpa home. It is nice to see how they understand each other in what they must do.
Hijikata is a character who has been shrouded in mystery; he doesn’t seem as cunning as Tsurumi. He seemed like the one with more care for the future of the Ainu than Tsurumi, and we have the mention of how Sugimoto reminded Tonji of a younger Hijikata. The cooperation of Kadokura made this betrayal even smoother.
To really spice things up, thanks to Inkarmat, information is provided to Tsurumi which leads him to attack Abashiri Prison. The question is, did she suspect Hijikata to betray Sugimoto’s group? We got the sides of Sugimoto, Hijikata, Tsurumi, and Inudou going against each other.
This episode finished adapting the rest of volume 13 by adapting chapters 125-130. Good to see they didn’t cut anything here. The betrayal is much more subtle in the anime, and while the writing is lost, it does add more shock value to give it a different flavor.
