The 4th short story from Fujimoto centers around Shikaku, who from an early age is shown to be quite abnormal. According to her mother, she pulls apart spiders legs. Not even getting to the point of animal cruelty, just that behavior is gross. Of course her mother just hits her after Shikaku apologizes. 10 years later we see her being an assassin, and more than likely she was pushed away, which led to this life she lives.

Though her encounter with Yugeru, the immortal vampire, is interesting. For once it seems she can’t kill her target because, for the obvious point, he is immortal. We know that Shikaku was more than likely outcasted by her family and others for being abnormal. Of course, Yugeru is just bored with life. Their situations are different, but both hate this world. For the first time, Shikaku connects with someone and finds love.

After Shikaku talks to Yugeru about the feelings in her chest, she goes to the hospital, where she realizes the feeling is love. Essentially combined with her personality and declaring her love in the manner she did for the first time, Yugeru is now entertained for the first time in a long time. It’s hard to say what he feels is love or if vampires can love, but him wanting to see Shikaku again affirms it from his side too. You have the girl who found someone who accepted her, and you have the girl who brought joy to an immortal man’s life. Essentially you have two people made to be with each other. Of course it makes the decision to make her into a vampire a no-brainer.
