As Athy turns 14, it is the start of the transition of her youth and into adult society. Though the bulk of the episode does focus on Claude. The one big headline is that through all of Athy’s birthdays, he wasn’t there for any of them. It’s clear that there is something with Athy’s mom that has him tied down. There appears to be more to it. Though Athy can tell that her father loves her dearly despite not being very expressive, as we can see Claude mentioning concern if Athy has a dance partner and almost suggesting himself. The painting given to Claude was beautiful from Claude and perhaps can help him fight whatever demons he is facing.
