As Sheena has been finding an avenue for her magic to shoot for, we finally have a conflict between the girls. We know Sheena hates seeing Mimi beat up after returning from the battlefield. Of course, with the death of Seiran we see now that Mimi wants to save more lives. Of course, logically speaking, this makes sense for why Mimi will push herself harder. At the same time as her relationship grows with Sheena, she doesn’t want to see her sad. Thus we have her hiding about her being hurt on the battlefield.
Where the fight really stems from is Mimi saying Sheena should not put herself at risk with training. The fear of losing Sheena like she did with Seiran is understandable, but it also steps on Sheena’s feelings on the matter. Still, Sheena is a very empathetic person, and despite Sheena being in the wrong, she tries to get Mimi to understand she understands why Mimi is doing what she did. Still, what she did is wrong. It is things like this where Sheena feels more like a mom to Mimi than anything else.
It is times like this when Mimi is still very much a child but, for once, is actually being aware of her surroundings instead of coming and going as she pleases like before. Still, it is good that each girl understands the other’s fears. Sheena wants to be of use because being weak and feeling useless is a terrible feeling. While for Mimi, being immortal and strong leaves you by yourself more than likely. It brings an interesting dynamic to their relationship.
The final chapter of the volume gave a nice focus on Ari as she is still getting over the death of Seiran. It’s interesting to see we have Esther, who shared the death of her partner. Perhaps these two can help each other move forward.
