The characterization of Mio is very fun. As she represents the type of gamer who hates putting effort into things she doesn’t enjoy. Like how she picked up fighting games quickly, the fact she can focus enough on her tests shows she grasps things quickly. Her biggest hurdle is herself in many ways.
As usual, this manga continues to be faithful to the FGC, and it really represents the culture of various players. As the group has its matches in EX Japan. The conversation of what they look to accomplish is well done, as players are at various levels. Though it’s natural to have someone like Mio seeking to win it all. Though ironically she is the first of them to lose. But it’s good to show that FGC tournaments hold a loser bracket in which a comeback is possible. Mio is a good example of it because she is the type who gets hot—she gets really hot—and vice versa when she is cold.
Tamaki’s match was a nice focus on how adaptability is important. Also, with Aya’s next match awaiting, it will be curious how the girls do going forward.
