This episode starts with Violet attending the Auto Memory Dolls’ Training School. No surprise that Violet achieved a lot of the best technical scores, as she is someone that always achieved optimal performance. As she is paired up with a girl named Luculia she tries to write a letter for Luculia, and once again she fails, this time because there is no emotion in the letter. Violet doesn’t graduate because capturing is a requirement for being an auto memory doll.

Luculia is the main girl in the school and ends up performing the best among the class as she graduates. Violet leaves an impression on her because of how different she seems. For Luculia she has trouble communicating her feelings to her brother, who is the only family she has left. Seeing how she is, she wants her to say that she is worried for him, but sometimes the words have difficulty coming out. It provides an interesting contrast to Violet, who typically has trouble expressing herself because she doesn’t understand emotions well. Whole for Luculia her emotions are too strong, so she doesn’t have a great grasp on them.

Hearing Luculia’s story, Violet does write a letter to her brother for her. It is rather simple, but it provides what Luculia feels for her brother. Just she is happy he is alive. Simple, but it holds profound meaning. This is a great first step for Violet.

The only con of the episode is that Violet graduates based on that one letter, and while the symbolism is well done, it is a bit confusing that just one simple letter is what enables her to graduate. Of course graduating isn’t the important thing for Violet, and her other skills are great, but I feel like focusing on the letter would have been the better choice here. Great episode regardless.
