Ascendance of a Bookworm: I’ll Do Anything to Become a Librarian! Part 1 – Volume 5

As Myne has her meeting with Frieda, we can see the little devil that Frieda is. In many ways she is like both her grandfather and Benno. As smart as Myne is, she doesn’t quite have the instincts to be a merchant like them. In fact, this is probably where Lutz can be the most useful for Myne. Still, Myne is learning how to act like a merchant because if she will be helpful to Lutz, she needs to learn quickly.

One aspect that makes Benno a good mentor for Myne is that he isn’t going to baby her. After all, doing that won’t help him in any way. Being a merchant is more about what cards  you are keeping hidden from your opponent and how you play them. For instance, Benno did not honor his contract with Myne because he would only be in trouble if Myne alluded to it and he refused to comply.

Still, Lutz’s family is the one big concerning spot going forward. They are adamant about him not being a merchant. No doubt Myne wants to help Lutz to go on the path that he truly aims to follow. Thought approaching the stuff with Lutz’s family is difficult because they need to be shown that it is a viable path for him.

The volume hits a rough end spot when we see Myne passing out due to the devouring again. This time she wasn’t even stressed out. What can be done because, unlike Frieda, Myne doesn’t come from a family of nobles? This makes things very tricky for Benno since losing Myne would be a giant blow to him.
