Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex – Episode 25

Things aren’t looking good for the members in hiding for Section 9. Even Batou is in a rough spot, and he would have been caught earlier if it weren’t for the Tachikoma that came to save him. It’s an interesting case for them because Tachikoma serve a purpose like a machine. As seen, they accomplish things as a team and as a unit. Did they acquire something equivalent to a ghost? Sacrificing themselves for Batou is a sign of individuality, so it is difficult to argue they don’t have a ghost. Perhaps the Tachikoma together have 1 ghost?

The conversation between Batou and Major was good towards the end when Batou talks about Makoto’s watch. Despite switching shells, there is a particular body that Major aligns with. There are things that are ours that make us individuals. The watch is a showcase of something Makoto is tied to. So in a way the ghosts are very similar to what makes people human. They are things that we tie ourselves to that represent who we are. Which is why both Makoto and Batou are tied to one particular shell even if it isn’t optimal.

Sadly, the opposing forces headshot Major, and Batou is now arrested. Still, the connection between The Laughing Man and Makoto is at large, where it feels like he is the last link that could be Section 9’s last hope. But what can be done this late in the game?
