Delicious in Dungeon – Volume 12

As Marcille has become the new Lord of the Dungeon, the dungeon now is changing shape and engulfing the world to fulfill her desires. Granted, many people think Laios is the new Lord of the Dungeon. It’s interesting that in most scenarios you’d think siding with the Canary would be the proper way to do things. Though through the connections Laios and his party have made throughout their journey. In fact it is because of them that Marcille feels cornered at this point. The interaction with the Western Elves more so brought out something she hated growing up.

One aspect of this series is how, when the party is swallowed by the familiar, they essentially get into the role of being eaten. In which now they need to figure out how to survive. Taking inspiration from the parasite when Laios got sick eating it. Essentially, them becoming the parasite in their own is what saved their own necks.

Now the more tragic part is the state Marcille is in. For Marcille being a half-elf is a curse because, oddly, she lives longer than even full elves. The worst part for Marcille she never really interacted with many people growing up. In fact, her becoming friends with Falin worked so well because Falin also didn’t have anyone besides her brother growing up. That point is that she and Falin are similar in that way. Still, her father and, likely, her mother died out. So Marcille has to live with the pain of watching everyone she loved die before her. No doubt this is a great source of pain, and wanting to live alongside her friends is her biggest wish.

Sadly, the issue for Marcille is that she wants all races to live as long as she does. Laios’s analogy with food works so well because she wants all races to live as long as half-elves. This is where the demonic nature of the Winged Lion and preying on her desires is causing an issue. The desire to live alongside her friends for her whole life is conflicting with her desire to extend the lifespan of all races. Sadly, Marcille can’t see that she has tunnel vision, and sadly, unable to snap her out of it, we even have Laios finally realizing the power of the dungeon is evil.

The canary is doing all they can, but we all know how powerful a dungeon master is at the core of their dungeon. Sadly, the Winged Lion is playing Marcille by the strings. Interestingly enough, the Winged Lion seeks human desires and, ironically, feels more human. As humans, we naturally seek our desires, goals, and wishes. The demons are cursed to consume human desires because for them they can’t have desires. Natural desires themselves are neither good nor evil. However, desires can often be led to be bad if left unchecked.

As Laios and the party head to meet Marcille. Falin being frozen is a good sign because she still has the desire to save her friend. The way they help and save Falin is not to fight her because that is pointless. It is to go after her desires. Senshi is baking the pie. Chilchuck mentioned her meeting his family.

Laios hit her desires when he mentioned she could make new versions of them. We know how she felt when the Winged Lion created a new version of her father. She was disgusted at the idea. We know that there is no desire she has that would have her turn on her friends. Which is why she had them in a room, which was to keep them safe. In much of the theme of this series, they mention they don’t need the Winged Lion’s powers to extend their life. They can do that through nutrition. Still, the very nature of Marcille’s race is something she can’t solve with magic. That is the one elephant in the room currently since that fear still exists within her.
