Kaya-chan isn’t Scary – Volume 4

I am actually quite shocked that it seems one of the kindergarten teachers got replaced. Curious if things build up from that. Even adding the kid who gets run over at this point, the series is taking a darker turn. The kids playing on the playground is a good scene because we see how kids and adults perceive each other. In a way, kids are trying to cause trouble, and adults are seen as monsters when being strict. These aren’t things Kaya should take care of, but they are common things, and presenting them in a horror aspect is cool.

Given that Kaya has an upcoming little sibling, her seeing the deceased mother in the hospital was interesting. Though also that Kaya can converse with the dead. Makes you wonder what their connection with the supernatural is with the dead since this is the first instance of Kaya not beating them but helping the woman move on.

Now that Kaya will be with her Aunt Nana, things will be interesting. Kaya does show her age at times, and her being tricked by the fake Nana is a good showcase of this. Of course, Kaya, being as strong as she is, throws off Nana. Nana also is a psychic, but she doesn’t compare to Kaya. It even starts the questions of how  Kaya is this strong. It could be why her grandmother was terrified of her.

Nana does give Chie-sensei a stern warning, which is surprising. But who is that man that Mobu calls master? Given he calls Kaya “Kaya-sama”, he must be powerful. Though this is the first time we’ve seen a guy this powerful.
